Rape is NOT an accident

Last year, Rick Snyder vetoed an extreme anti-choice proposal to ban all normal health insurance plans from covering abortions, saying it was wrong for government to inject politics in the private health insurance marketplace.

Now, anti-choice extremists are trying to revive the plan with a ballot initiative, which would only require support from 3 1/2 percent of registered voters in Michigan and legislative approval to sidestep the governor.

Defending their proposal this morning, lobbyists for Right To Life compared rape to a car accident, house fire, or house flood.

Anti-choice special interests know the public doesn't support their radical plan to ban abortion, so their only option is this end-around proposal. But it's simply wrong for them to defend the proposal with offensive and inflammatory language.

Please commit to vote against this outrageous proposal if it comes before the legislature again. It's wrong for them to attempt to circumvent the will of the people and the normal legislative process. And it's wrong to place an intrusive new mandate on private insurance companies.
